Okay, now that the song has some basic melodics let’s add a bass line. This is how the melody pattern looks and sounds like: By keep things basic, I’m able to show you that you CAN do this with literally just a laptop and some headphones. It’s a lot more fun, and it’s faster than adding the melody by point-and-click via the mouse, though in this tutorial I’m using just the mouse. Usually, I use my MIDI keyboard to play and record different kind of melodies live. I’ll do this until I find a melody that plays along nicely with the chord pattern. Which I’m going to use to play a melody that works with the strings chord pattern. I usually choose oboe instrument with the strings. So, the next task is to load up another instrument and start to design a melody that works well together with the chord pattern There’s a ton of possibilities and combinations, and it may take a while before I come up something catchy. Now, the string chord pattern I have just created is very basic, but it’ll give me a guideline for adding the melody. Here I have added another chord and the chord pattern is slowly starting to form:Īnd here’s the whole chord pattern ready: This is the very first chord which is the beginning of the whole musical idea:
Here are pictures showing how I do it in FL Studio’s Piano Roll. Keep doing this until the chord pattern is 8 bars long. The chord pattern should progress logically. The chords must fit together when played one after another. …and try different notes in it to find a combination that plays well with the first chord. And my first chord (triad) is now created. I go to the Piano Roll view in FL Studio and choose a root note, then layer one or two more notes on top of it, and experiment until I find a note combination that sounds good. But you can use your favorite VSTi of course. Miroslav Philharmonik has some beautiful sounding strings, which are good for experimenting with chord combinations. So if you don’t have music theory knowledge, don’t worry, you can still make music, and your ears will get trained the more you do it.Īlright, the step-by-step guide for this method goes like this: 1. These files can all be found in the project bones folders. At this point, I have to say that I don’t have a lot of music theory knowledge (seriously, I can’t even read the notes), but I do have a bit of a musical ear so I can pretty much tell what chords, chord combinations, and melodies work together.
It is also possible to import Automation, Effects and Mixer presets from one FL Studio project to another. Select the score that you previously saved in the scores folder.ĭo this for all of the channels you want in your new project and then that’s it! You now have all of the channels and patterns from your other FL Studio project into your new FL Studio project. In the piano roll click the little down arrow and then go to File and then Open score as. Right click on one of the channels and then click Piano Roll. Now once all of your samples are into your new project you will need to open the scores for each of the samples. Do this for every channel you want from your other project.
Navigate to the folder and select the sample to insert. Click on the little folder in the sampler channel settings window to load your previously saved sample. Click on the sampler channel to open up the channels settings window. Open the FL Studio project that you want to import the channels into. Ok now that you have saved all of your scores you are ready to import the channels and scores into your new project.
You will need to Save the scores for each and every channel that you want to export into your other project. Save it under the same name as the Channel so you know what it is. Save it in the Project bones folder under Scores. In the piano roll click on the little arrow and go to the file menu and then Save score as. Right click on the channel that you want to export and click Send to piano roll. Now it’s time to export the scores that correspond to the mixer channels. Now say we wanted to combine this drum loop pattern into another existing project, well this is how you would go about it….įirst all you need to do is go to the File Menu and then Export and then go to Project Bones shown in the image below.Ĭhoose a folder to save your project bones in and inside that folder you will see the following.Ĭlick on the Channels folders and you will see all of your samples have been exported into here. The first image below shows a simple drum loop pattern that has been created in a FL Studio project. This is a simple example but it can get more complex depending on the number of patterns that you want to export. The following tutorial will show the basics for doing exactly that. So you want to export a pattern from one FL Studio project and import it into another FL Studio project?
